They have been shown to be the best fitness tool for abdominal training out of the most current and highly advertised abdominal equipment on the market today. Aside from their use in the fitness setting, these balls have also made their debut into childbirth education classes as well as the labor and birthing arena, where they are known as "birth balls." This article discusses the benefits of using the "birth ball" during pregnancy, labor, and early postpartum, and describes simple exercises for abdominal and back strength. Safety guidelines, ball choices, and sizing tips are also addressed.
