Relationship or Content? Which Is More Important in Perinatal Education?

Where should perinatal educators be putting emphasis within their group encounters? For a novice educator, content is of the first order; however, as the educator gains knowledge and expertise, a shift may occur: family systems theory is integrated into the educational program so that greater emphasis is put on the couple's relationship. The educator adapts the educational program to better respond to the changes that the couple is dealing with within their relationship as they are experiencing the transition to parenthood and preparing for birthing and parenting. This article will explore this shift and how this will impact the future of perinatal education.

Today's Pregnant Teen: How Can Healthcare Professionals Combat this Prevalent Pandemic?

Today's pregnant teen poses many challenges. As healthcare professionals we cannot afford to be ambivalent or uninvolved with our pregnant teen community. This article will examine the childbirth experience, as well as the change in perspective, for one labor and delivery nurse.
